[ Emerick couldn't recall the last time he'd done anything for himself. Well, that wasn't really true - it'd been nearly a decade ago when he took his sister from their parents' home. After that, he'd never had much room in his life to even think about a relationship. Sure he'd occasionally pay a doll for an empty hour or two - who in this city hasn't - but working multiple jobs to raise a teenager and put her through school didn't afford him much of a social life.
His gaze turned back toward Moonlight when he he speaks again, and he couldn't stop himself from smiling when Moonlight agreed to give this a try. He felt like he should say something here, but what was there to say? Thank you? You won't regret it? That didn't feel right.
Luckily, Moonlight handed him a plate instead, which he took gladly. He glanced at his beer - the correct answer was yes, he could use another (his hesitation said as much) - and shook his head. Some part of him felt guilty for imposing already (yes, he knew he was invited), so he hardly needed to take more from the man. ] I should be okay, but thank you.
[ Moonlight's brows raise, eyes lidded in a look of skepticism. He leans, ponytail swaying over one shoulder, as he eyes Emerick's drink himself. With a pointed glance at Emerick - mock reproachful, playful more than anything - Moonlight turns back to the fridge.
He pops the lid, and sets it next to the first, then sits next to the other man to eat. ] Wouldn't ask if I didn't intend to share, [ he comments, but leaves it that Emerick doesn't have to answer. Instead, he cuts himself a bite of steak, scoops potatoes onto the end, and takes a bite as though he hasn't eaten all day. He hums appreciatively, though waits for Emerick to offer his thoughts. He cooks for himself on a somewhat regular basis, but the only other guest he's ever had was wealthy enough that they could afford to eat out at establishments with nicer food than Moonlight could afford to cook himself. So on top of the strange honor (if it was that) of being the second ever guest in Moonlight's apartment, Emerick is also the first person Moonlight has really cooked for.
He decides not to assign that any meaning, either. ]
[ Emerick shrank a little when Moonlight shot him that glance, guilt painting itself over his features. It was a habit that kicked in before he could even process that Moonlight was being playful. At the point he did realize that Moonlight was teasing, he was embarrassed, and that was when his gaze fell to the counter. He started to loosen up as Moonlight settled in next to him and took his bite.
Emerick hesitated as he picked up the silverware - he couldn't recall exactly when the last time someone cooked for him was. He was almost certain that his sister had cooked for him once or twice, maybe, but he always made sure to push her towards her studies and having a life of her own rather than worrying about chores. Even if she had cooked for him those one or two times, it was still kibble. Emerick's never had something as nice as steak - synth or otherwise. He cut himself a bite of the steak and ate it alone, then a bite of the potatoes. ]
This is really good. My compliments to the chef.
[ He glanced to the man next to him with a small smile. Emerick was trying not to let on how much of a treat this was for him, something he'd never experienced himself. Despite what a treat this was, he took small bites and ate slowly. ]
